Cheney Hall

Manchester, CT

www.cheneyhall.org

From the website: Cheney Hall was built in 1866 as a theatre and cultural community facility for Manchester, Connecticut. The Second Empire structure was built by Cheney Brothers Company, silk manufacturers.

With the decline of the silk industry, the Hall became a fabric salesroom in 1925 and finally closed its doors in 1976.

In 1978 Cheney Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark. Three years later it was donated to the Town of Manchester and subsequently leased by the Cheney Hall Foundation, a town agency, to The Little Theatre of Manchester, Inc. (LTM). In 1991 an extensive, award-winning restoration was completed. Cheney Hall is now LTM's theatrical residence, and the Little Theatre manages the Hall as a facility for other cultural, business, civic and private functions.

Facility Rental

The elegant architecture of Cheney Hall's Auditorium makes it a favorite for weddings, banquets, office holiday parties, and family gatherings.

The auditorium seats as many as 335, when arranged for an audience. Arranged with tables and chairs for a banquet or wedding receptions, it seats 150 to 200 comfortably.

The Hall is generally available in June and July on weekends, and on dates throughout the year when no performances are scheduled.

Most renters make their own arrangements with caterers and table and linen rental services, though our staff can help with making these arrangements. For events that will alcohol, renters or their caterers must provide a certificate of liquor liability insurance, covering the Town of Manchester, Little Theatre of Manchester and the Cheney Hall Foundation from alcohol related claims. The best way to provide this is to work with a fully licensed caterer.
